CONDE Nast has named Wales as one of the best destinations to visit in the world in 2023.
A network of well-travelled writers and editors from around the world chose the destinations based on their new offerings with a mixture of places making the cut.
Included in the top 23 are Egypt, Marrakech in Morocco, and two hotspot alternatives in Spain and Portugal.
Wales made the shortlist thanks to its rural highlights, walking paths, new slow-travel routes, outdoor saunas, and a rejuvenated food scene complete with truffles, scallops, cheese, oysters and Welsh lamb on menus across the country.
The judges also noted new pub openings in Cardiff, the whisky distilleries on Swansea’s doorstep, and Carmarthenshire’s seven-mile stretch of Pendine Sands.
Adventure lovers are also advised to head to Wales next year to enjoy inland surfing and coasteering activities.
One location in Spain also made next year’s list – the UNSECO World Heritage site of Zamora is just one-hour away from Madrid and has a vast terrain of crags, cliffs and lakes as well as red wine, olives and citrus fruitS.
Meanwhile, Melides in Portugal is a spot good for beach-goers thanks to its white, sandy, beaches, according to Conde Nast.
Marrakech has also made the cut and you can fly there in less than four hours and be welcomed by camel rides and sandy beaches.
Egypt has been put back on the tourist map, and Ryanair could soon be launching cheap flights to the North-African country from the UK.
The budget airline is “in talks” with authorities in Egypt, as well as Libya, to offer Brits direct bargain flights.
Brits will already be familiar with the Hurghada and Sharm el Sheikh, two popular holiday resorts, but the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza is set to open next year giving holidaymakers a glimpse into Egypt’s deep history.
Other destinations in the top 23 include Auckland in New Zealand, Queensland in Australia, Kenya and Taiwan.
Time Out has also named Eastbourne, East Sussex, as the best place for a day out or overnight trip in 2023
Travel experts at Lonely Planet have whittled down the ‘must-visit’ destinations for globe trotters to explore next year including Lima in Peru and Umbria in Italy.
