I’m a flight attendant and there is something we all do before boarding – and you should too

A FLIGHT attendant has revealed the one thing passengers should do to keep themselves safe prior to taking their seats.

TikToker Cierra Mistt often shares videos about her job, giving her 3 million followers an insight into the life of a flight attendant.

Cierra Mistt often shares videos about her job as a flight attendant

In one of her videos, she shares some of the industry’s best-kept secrets including how she always wears suncream on the job.

She said: “We’re always wearing sunscreen when we work.”;

The cabin crew member added: “We do this because we fly around at 35,000 feet every single day and that’s pretty close to the ozone layer.

“In fact, we’re so exposed to radiation that health insurance will label us as the same as astronaut or a radiologist.”;

Her video has racked up over 1.5 million views, and been liked by 843,000 people.

Despite its popularity, many were quick to disagree with Cierra’s logic in the comments – including other airline staff.

One person wrote: “I’m an RJ pilot... I def [sic] don’t wear sunscreen.”;

While another person added: “I’m a pilot and I never wear sunscreen. I actually get frustrated that I never get a hint of tan through the windows.”;

Other users chimed in too: “Sunscreen won’t protect you from radiation unfortunately. Radiologists don’t wear that at work.”;

Someone else said: “Sunscreen only stops UV and the windows have a UV tint on them.”;

But many were grateful for her other tips in the video including how flight attendants never drink coffee or tea on board a plane because the water pipes aren’t regularly cleaned.

While airlines may tell passengers they do ‘regular’ water quality test, Cierra said: “But we’re told that’s about six to nine months for even one test on one plane to happen and they’re not going to clean up that tank unless they find something.”;

In another video she revealed that there are actually “a lot of ways”; to get moved to the pricey front seats.

She said: “One of the easiest ways to get free upgrades is literally just being nice to your gate agent and fight attendant.

“The miracles we can work when we’re given some Starbucks or a bag of chocolates, especially those long days where we have back-to-back flights and don’t even have time to go get some food.”;

Meanwhile another flight attendant revealed the £16 item they always swear by on holiday.
