Martin Lewis’ MoneySavingExpert reveals full list of supermarkets doing cheap Christmas veg from as little as 19p

MARTIN Lewis’ MoneySavingExpert has revealed where you can get veg for as little as 19p ahead of Christmas.

A number of retailers are battling it out to offer customers bargain prices and entice them ahead of the festive period.

It comes as the cost of living has soared for millions of households across the UK.

The consumer price index (CPI) of inflation was at 10.7% in November, the Office for National Statistics said today.

In his latest newsletter, Martin Lewis’ MoneySavingExpert.com revealed the full list of supermarkets offering discounted vegetables to help ease the strain on customers’ purses and wallets.

German retailer Aldi is slashing the price of its “Super Six”; veggies from December 18, including carrots and white potatoes.

Meanwhile, Sainsbury’s is reducing the price of a number of its veg products from the same date, including Brussels sprouts and parsnips.

Here is the full list of supermarkets offering cheap veggies ahead of this Christmas.

Lidl

Lidl customers only have to wait until tomorrow, December 15, to get veggies for 19p.

The German retailer is selling 500g bags of Brussels sprouts, 1kg of carrots, 1.5kg potatoes and 500g of parsnips at that price.

Plus, single swedes and 300g bags of shallots will be selling at the same price.

You’ll have to head out to your nearest store to get them though as they don’t offer home deliveries nor a click and collect service.

Aldi

Aldi is slashing the price of its “Super Six”; veggies from December 18.

Shoppers can get hold of 500g bags of Brussels sprouts, 1kg bags of carrots and 500g parsnips all for 19p.

Plus, single red and white cabbages, swedes and 2kg bags of potatoes will all be the same price.

Customers can head to their nearest Aldi store to get the veggies, or order via Click and Collect online.

Again, if you don’t know where your nearest Aldi is, you can use the store locator on its website.

Sainsbury’s

Sainsbury’s is the next supermarket slashing prices on its veggies.

Shoppers can get 500g bags of Brussels sprouts, 1kg of carrots and 500g of parsnips for 19p.

Meanwhile, single red and white cabbages, single swedes and 2.5kg bags of potatoes will all be priced at 19p too.

Shoppers looking to order online will be able to get the reduced prices for deliveries between December 20 and December 24.

Asda, Tesco and Waitrose haven’t yet said if they’re reducing the cost of any of their veggies but they have in previous years.

Asda dropped its carrots, parsnips, broccoli and Brussels sprouts to 20p in 2021.

Meanwhile, Tesco’s Brussels sprouts, carrots, cauliflowers, parsnips and potatoes were selling from 29p.

And Waitrose slashed a number of its veggies to 40p.

How else can I save on my supermarket shop?

Beyond nabbing cheap veggies, there are a number of other ways you can cut the costs of your Christmas shopping this year.

You can always try and keep a lookout for yellow or red stickers on products.

Supermarket staff put these on to show that an item has been reduced.

Bear in mind though, if the food is fresh you’ll have to eat it fast, or freeze it to have another time, as it’s usually reduced because it’s close to its use-by date.

Try making a list too – that’ll stop you from making any rash payments next time you’re out shopping and will save you money too.

Or, you might want to go for supermarket own-brands as it could save you hundreds over a year.

That means going for “own”; or “value”; type products instead of “finest”; or “luxury”; lines.

Plenty of supermarkets run wonky veg and fruit schemes as well where you can get cheap prices if they’re misshapen or imperfect.

For example, Lidl runs its Waste Not scheme offering boxes of 5kg of fruit and vegetables for just £1.50.
