IF you’re a smoker and you’re planning to visit Qatar, you might be wondering whether you’ll be able to smoke there too.

Here is all you need to know about smoking cigarettes and vaping in Qatar.

You can smoke in Qatar, however, the Ministry of Public Health in the country has been pushing to reduce the amount of smoking.

This is not only to protect public health but to try and make better for the environment.

Smoking in closed public places such as stadiums and sports facilities and other indoor places can land you a penalty.

You are not allowed to smoke while driving with a person under the age of 18 or else you can earn yourself a fine.

These regulations are all aimed at protecting those who smoke and those who not.

In one of his speeches, Director of Public Health Sheikh Mohammed Al Thani said: “Smoking is a significant public health concern in Qatar, therefore it is vital that we increase our efforts to combat tobacco use.

“The National Health Strategy 2018-2022 sets a target of reducing the prevalence of smoking, and achieving this includes enforcement of our law on tobacco control; which is not only designed to reduce tobacco consumption in Qatar but also to protect non-smokers – such as children – who are exposed to harmful second-hand smoke.”

Can you vape in Qatar?

Vaping in Qatar has been banned since 2014, and you cannot take your vape into the country either.



If you get caught vaping or with a vape in Qatar, you can earn a fine of up to 10,000 riyals which amounts to around £2,200 or a maximum of three months in prison.

How much do cigarettes cost in Qatar?

Cigarettes in Qatar can range from 22 riyals to 24 riyals.

If you convert that to pounds, 24 riyals will amount to around £5.83.

You can buy packs of cigarettes in Qatar from supermarkets that sell them, however, they are not sold elsewhere.

Some users on Tripadvisor suggested buying a pack of 400 cigarettes from the airport which would cost 134 riyals which amounts to £32.56.
