From comfy socks to durable jackets, we test the best running gear

WINTER is the perfect season to go running outside – not too hot and not too cold.

And for runners wanting to take part in marathons next year, it is time to put your shoes on and start training.

They are made of a special fibre that has a naturally occurring mineral additive which increases your anaerobic limit

But as the temperatures drop and light levels dip, you need the right kit to be warm, comfortable and visible.

Today Jane Atkinson looks at the products that can help put a spring in your step . . .

Socks

WHEN you are running these are a tricky thing to get right. Too thick and you feel as though your feet are getting squashed.

And the ones that wriggle down behind your heel are just hideous.

These Energy Run Socks from Enertor tick a lot of boxes.

They have an anti-rubbing and anti-blister protection, ultralight materials for reduced fatigue, enhanced ventilation for improved comfort and antimicrobial yarn to protect against odour and bacteria.

I thought these felt a bit synthetic and thin. But put them on and they are great.

Vest tops

THIS is called a Lifa Active Solen Singlet. But call a spade a spade…this is a vest top.

Vest top or not, this is still a great one.

The Helly Hansen singlet fits perfectly around your body without the dreaded clinging element

In fact, it is probably the best I have ever tried – and I am fussy.

This Helly Hansen top contains S.Café technology – a particular process that infuses the fabric with used coffee grounds for a chemical-free sun protection. The top is super lightweight, with special wicking fabric to keep you dry.

It is made from 60-per-cent recycled polyester. But the best bit is the fit.

The Helly Hansen singlet fits perfectly around your body without the dreaded clinging element. And it doesn’t ride up when you run.

Jacket

AROUND three quarters of runners say they would run in the dark if they had the right gear.

Now Brooks Running has launched its new Run Visible Collection.
It means you can be seen from 600ft away.

Brooks Running has launched its new Run Visible Collection

It includes gear for men and women – tops, jackets, tights, shorts and vests. The jacket is ace because it also converts into a small vest if you get sick of wearing a jacket.

It is really lightweight, with small zip pockets and a hood that can be stashed away.

I wore it in the rain on a 30-minute run and didn’t get wet through at all. The only odd thing is the sizing. I needed a large and I am always a medium. So opt for a size up.
