WHAT if I told you you could spend the night on a superyacht without having millions in the bank?
Just a few steps from The Expo in London is the Sunborn Yacht Hotel – the only superyacht in the UK you can spend the night.
I was lucky enough to spend the night on the yacht, which also has a similar one in Gibraltar with plans to open another in London next year.
The five-star hotel is docked at Royal Victoria Dock, so don’t worry if you get seasick either as you won’t even feel it moving.
This includes 138 rooms and suites as well as a restaurant, bar, outdoor terrace and event space – a lot to fit into the 142m boat.
As I arrived, I was whisked up a tiny lift from outside, and was plonked into the middle of a huge grand lobby, with spiral staircase and very outlandish glass chandelier.
Feeling just as glam as a cruise ship, I was shown to my room down the narrow corridor, but opened up into my suite with some of the most stunning views across the river.
The huge glass doors led out onto the balcony, and was a surprisingly peaceful area despite being next to the busy London conference centre.
But the star of the yacht is its restaurant Land’s End.
I was certainly underdressed – one guest came in a floor-length sequin dress, compared to my trousers-and-shirt combo – although there is no dress code and the staff didn’t even seem to notice.
With views of London’s Docklands to watch the sunset, the three-course dinner was some of the finest I’ve had in London.
This included large juicy scallops with pea puree and pancetta, followed by the lobster tagliatelle – so rich I struggled to finish it.
Yet room for dessert was a must, struggling to pick between the chocolate fondant with pistachio ice cream or the panna cotta and strawberries.
The waiter kindly suggested I tried both, with the attentive service meaning my wine glass was never empty for long either.
Before I knew it was I was waking up in my cabin with a peaceful start to the morning overlooking the water, followed by a very leisurely buffet breakfast at the same restaurant.
You can hire it for conferences or even weddings, if you fancy saying your vows on water.
But if you just want to brag about being on a superyacht, then you can do that too – as I certainly did.
A night on Sunborn starts from £129 based on two sharing a Yacht Classic Room.
If you really want to splash the cash, you can hire the most expensive superyacht in the world for whopping £3million a week.
And here is what you can expect from the widest superyacht in the world – costing £418million with two helipads and a six-car garage,
