AVAIATION industry leaders have shortlisted the best in-flight innovations for The Crystal Cabin Awards a.k.a. the Oscars of aeroplanes.
The incredible nominations include cabin designs with increased leg room, state-of-the-art digital equipment and unmanned trolleys.
There are 85 contenders in total, all vying to be recognised in their category. Accolades are available in eight categories with the focus on futuristic cabin designs.
Some of the entries have been recently produced while others are still at the concept stage.
Popular entries include heated stone flooring, touch screen windows and face-cradle head rests.
Manufacturers from 21 different countries feature in the shortlist, which also includes engineering firms and universities.
The awards are organised by Hamburg Aviation who have divided the prizes into eight sections: Cabin Concepts, Cabin Systems, Electronic Systems, Greener Cabin, Health, Safety and Environment, Material and Components, Passenger Comfort Hardware, University, and Visionary Concepts.
American carriers Delta and United have both been shortlisted for the annual cabin award due to their new business class products.
American company Delta have made the list for the Delta One suite on the Airbus A350 which offers every business class passenger a private sealed off cabin area.
While United Airlines have been recognised for launching the Polaris business class, that provides every passenger with access to the aisle access.
There are also private jet innovations being considered for an accolade including heated stone flooring designed by F.List GmbH in Austria.
In-amongst the nominees for the 11th year of awards are a number of innovations designed to make flying a more enjoyable experience.
These include the Vision Systems window pane, which is a touch screen that projects flight information during the journey.
Another handy invention to have gained recognition is the FaceCradle, which supports the passengers heads while they sleep.
A Brazilian team from University of Rio de Janeiro has made the shortlist with the unique concept of 3D printing in-flight meals.
