Boost for Brit holidays as UK staycations to get cheaper next year

BRITISH holidays have seen eye-water price hikes in the last few years, but it looks like the cost of a staycation will go down in 2023.

Experts at AirDNA have revealed a slump in the UK staycation market.

The company, which analyses the price of holiday homes across the UK and Europe, revealed to The Telegraph that holiday let prices fell £13 per night in September, compared to the same period in the previous year.

For two years, pandemic travel restrictions forced Brits to holiday in the UK, sending prices skyward across the UK.

But people are now travelling abroad again, meaning competition is less fierce for staycation properties.

Holidaymakers are also cutting back on their spending thanks to cost of living crisis, and trying to grab last-minute deals or forgo their annual holiday entirely.

Amanda Stecker who runs an advice service for holiday let investors told the newspaper: “My clients are finding it harder to achieve the kind of income levels they were achieving this time last year and they are having to hold their nerve that bookings will come in eventually.”

According to AirDNA, September bookings in Britain were down 5 per cent.

They also predict that bookings for the next six months will be down 10 per cent compared to last year.



In Bristol and Bath, the cost of renting a holiday let prices has fallen by 17 per cent, and prices have fallen by 16 per cent in Brighton and Hove.

Not only are UK holidaymakers holding out, but they’re heading abroad too.

Searches for holiday homes in Portugal were up 38 per cent, while searches for holiday lets in France were up 36 per cent.

British crowds made up 17 per cent of international bookings in France between July and September.
