Martin Lewis’ MoneySavingExpert predicts Christmas deals dates for John Lewis, M&S and Lidl

Published on November 10, 2022 at 10:42 AM

EAGER Christmas shoppers can now get a hand searching for deals thanks to Martin Lewis’ MoneySavingExpert (MSE).

The bargain experts have put together a list of when it expects retailers to drop prices in the days before Christmas.

Martin Lewis’ MSE has put together a list of sale predictions this Christmas for eager shoppers

Shoppers are already eyeing up selection boxes, advent calendars and mince pies in the run up to festivities.

And with Black Friday approaching on November 25 too, you’ll want to know where to find the cheapest deals in advance.

Of course, MSE’s list is only a prediction so there’s no guarantee it’s accurate, and a deal is only a deal if you intended to buy the product in the first place.

You’ll need to watch out for extra costs for delivery and refunds too if you’re buying, so don’t forget that.

There’s a handy comparison site – Trolley.co.uk – which compares the prices of 130,000 products across 14 major supermarkets if you want to be sure.

The Latest Deals app also lets you search items and compare prices at several supermarkets to see where it’s cheaper.

But MSE expects ‘pre-Christmas sales’ to being from December 4 and 5, starting with Lidl and M&S.

The consumer site predicts that Lidl will launch its ‘£10 off £40 voucher via newspaper’, which it launched last year on December 9.

It also expects M&S to slash the price of its Christmas decorations by 30% on the same day.

Between December 12 and December 18, MSE predicts fruit and vegetables will cost as little as 14p as supermarkets begin a more urgent price war.

This happened on December 13 in 2021, and December 17 the year before.

Ikea could announce its annual 50% off winter sale as it did on 13 December the year before – which is usually online and in stores.

The site also reckons John Lewis will apply 30% off Christmas decorations during this time – so you might want to compare to M&S if you’re planning on having a scan.

But more sales will begin from December 19. Argos is expected to host a 50% off sale between then and Christmas Day, the latter being the date it took place last year.

During the same time period, it’s believed Boots will also slash prices by up to half.

For the past five years, Boots has started its post-Christmas sale on December 24 – so keep an eye out again this year.

You should expect 50% or more slashed prices in M&S, Next, Matalan, H&M and John Lewis after Christmas Day and into the New Year – at which point sales might reach 70% off.

This is around the same time these sales began last year.
