JOHN Lewis has teased customers with the release date of its Christmas advert – and there’s less time to wait than you’d think.
The retailer has shared a teaser on its Twitter account showing a man wheeling a Christmas tree along a street using a skateboard.
Writing with the words “Christmas begins” and tomorrow’s date, November 10, then flash up on the screen.
After that follows a hashtag reading #TheBeginner.
It comes after eagle-eyed shoppers spotted the retailer had uploaded a new logo on its Facebook page.
John Lewis is known for its Christmas adverts, with last year’s featuring a teenage boy who meets an alien named Skye who has crash landed on earth.
It was released earlier than ever – as it normally comes out in the second week of November – hitting screens on November 4 instead.
In 2020, the advert first aired on Friday, November 13 and was inspired by random acts of kindness carried out by people during the coronavirus lockdown.
Its 2019 ad, which starred Edgar the dragon, was released on November 14.
The ad was the first joint-effort with John Lewis’ sister retailer Waitrose.
Online retailer Very has already released the first Christmas ad of the year on October 12 – you can watch it here.
Last year, Asda released its Christmas advert on November 4, featuring a family enter an Asda store before being transported through a series of traditional Christmas events.
It was released the same day as the John Lewis ad for that year.
In 2020, Asda’s came out on November 10. It followed a real-life family getting ready for the festive season by decorating their house and stocking up for Christmas Day.
Marks & Spencer also releases an advert yearly, with last year’s landing on November 4 also.
The Christmas clip, which starred Dawn French and Tom Holland, saw Percy Pig come to life and explore the treats on offer in an M&S food hall.
The year before, its advert came out on November 6 followed by a string of others, involving the voices of ten world-famous actors including Tom Hardy, Dame Helen Mirren and Eddie Redmayne.
In the first instalment, Oscar winner Olivia Colman, 46, talked about some of the posh nosh that was on offer that year.
A new one popped up each week until the New Year.
Boots, Aldi, Iceland and Argos are among other retailers who regularly put out Christmas adverts.
And last year tears were jerked over the Heathrow Christmas advert – which showed real passengers reuniting at Terminal 3.
Aldi has already teased the return of Kevin the Carrot for this year’s Christmas advert.
