Tesco is making a BIG change to its meal deal – and customers won’t be happy

TESCO is making a huge change to the price of its meal deal for the first time in ten years.

The sandwich, snack and drink lunch deal will now cost £3.40 for Tesco Clubcard members, and £3.90 for shoppers without one.

Tesco is upping the price of its meal deal for all customers

This is an increase of 40p for all shoppers. The new prices will come in from Monday, October 24.

Shoppers have been hammered by rising inflation, which is currently at 10.1%, as food and energy prices soar.

The UK’s biggest grocer said that 70% of shoppers now purchase the meal deal via its Clubcard promotion.

A Tesco spokesman said: “Clubcard members will pay just £3.40 for a main, snack and drink, making our meal deal an ideal way to grab a great value lunch on-the-go.

“And with savings of up to Â£3 on millions of possible combinations across our stores, including the recent addition of Costa hot drinks, and our ever-popular Christmas sandwiches which join the meal deal for the festive period, we’ve got something for every taste.”

Tesco said it will always make sure that shoppers get the best price on their meal deals.

So, if your selection adds up to less than £3.40, or £3.90, then you will only pay the price of the items.

The supermarket said its most popular meal deal combo is a Ham and Cheddar Sub, Diet Coca-Cola and Walkers Cheese and Onion Crisps – which comes to £5.24 if bought separately.

This means Clubcard shoppers can still save £1.84 with the deal, and shoppers without a card can save £1.34.

In February, Tesco introduced a discount to its meal deal promotion

It meant that non-Clubcard customers had to pay more than £3 for the first time in a decade.

Boots charges £3.99 for its meal deal, while customers in London pay £4.99.

Sainsbury’s and Morrisons both charge £3.50.

But Tesco isn’t the only retailer hiking its prices – big chains such as McDonald’s and Costa have also put up the price of popular items.

Costa has slapped an extra 18% onto some pour-it-yourself hot drinks prices including hot chocolates and lattes.

In July, McDonald’s announced it was hiking menu prices including fan favourite the 99p cheeseburger.

Amazon also increased the price of its Prime delivery and streaming service for the first time since 2014

You can sign up for Tesco’s Clubcard scheme online or in-store – you can find all the details on Tesco’s website.

As well as Clubcard prices you can earn points every time you shop that can later be exchanged for money-off vouchers.

Clubcard prices were first introduced in 2019.
